Back in 2018, the Dominican Republic had an overall increase of 6.2% for tourism. And before the pandemic hit in 2020, this country was set for record-breaking tourist numbers!
Now that we’re returning to normal in the near future, you might be itching to visit this beautiful country and help bump tourism numbers back up. If that’s the case, then you need to go to Punta Cana. This is a resort town that’s known for its breathtaking beaches and crystal clear waters!
If you’re interested in going on a Punta Cana excursion, then you’ll want to keep reading. Here’s a travel guide to the best beaches and attractions near Breathless Punta Cana Resort & Spa.
Spend a Day on Bavaro Beach
Bavaro Beach is pretty much the best beach in Punta Cana, hands down. In fact, many consider it to be the best beach in all of the Dominican Republic! For some tourists, they’ve even named it the best beach in the whole world.
So when it comes to things to do in Punta Cana, you better mark this one down on your list. Here, you’ll feel the softest white sand you’ve ever felt through your toes and you’ll stare up at tall coconut trees that’ll put you right at ease.
Because the beach has such calm waters, it’s perfect for people of all comfort levels with swimming. You can also just lay on the beach, catching some sunshine.
When you’re feeling a bit energetic, take a walk down the coast. Bavaro Beach stretches over 6.2 miles and has a very flat slope that goes to the water, so it’s the perfect setting for a romantic beach walk.
You can also go parasailing or take glass-bottom boat tours here!
Go on a Speedboat Tour
Want to get a great view of Punta Cana and also some thrills? Then go on a speedboat tour! These tours are a great way to see what the Caribbean has to offer.
Speed along crystal-clear waters while seeing Punta Cana from a unique vantage point, as you’ll get to drive your own speedboat! Not only that, but you can dive into the depths with both SNUBA and snorkeling options. You’ll get an up-close and personal look at the dazzling Bavaro coral reef and swim right next to some stunning tropical marine life.
If you opt for SNUBA, you’ll literally get to walk underwater. The tour will also provide underwater chairs, which you can sit in to take in the view. You’ll be able to dive down to 20 feet under!
What’s great is that this excursion includes roundtrip transportation and rental of snorkeling equipment.
Go on a Buggies Ride
Are you on vacation with your best friend or significant other? Then you can’t miss out on a buggie ride with them!
Over 4 hours, you’ll go on an off-road adventure, driving buggies with your loved one. You’ll get a look at the gorgeous Dominican countryside. What’s great is you’ll get to stop for local coffee and cacao in a typical Dominican home.
You’ll also stop off at the cave El Hoyo, which is one of the best Punta Cana attractions around. Marvel at the underwater river and take a moment to cool off in it.
Lastly, you’ll get a chance to get out of the buggies and stretch your legs on the beautiful beach and freshwater lagoon at Macao Beach.
Once you return, you’ll get to visit the local colmado, which is a grocery store. This will give you the opportunity to refresh yourself while interacting with local residents.
Go on a Monkeyland Tour
We know what you’re thinking: Monkeyland? This is a monkey sanctuary that also has pretty botanical gardens.
On our Monkeyland tour, you’ll do more than explore Monkeyland. You’ll ride on a safari truck, seeing tons of local coffee and cacao plantations on the way. In fact, we’ll stop off at one so you can get a personal tour.
Once you arrive at MonkeyLand, you’ll get to walk through the botanical trail where you’ll see lots of local plants. Then, you’ll actually get to interact with the monkeys!
Go Horseback Riding
What better way to see all of the gorgeous beaches of the Dominican Republic than by horseback? This can be an especially romantic excursion for you and your significant other.
For 3 hours, you’ll get to gallop along the coast, starting at a horse ranch in Punta Cana, traveling through secluded beaches that not many others get to see. You’ll go to Uvero Alto Beach where there’s plenty of local wildlife. There’s even time to go swimming in those turquoise waters before you head back.
If you want to remember this trip and you don’t want just selfie photos, there are souvenir pictures available for purchase!
Party on a Boat
For those of you who are party animals, you should book a party boat excursion! You’ll get to view the Dominican Republic’s east coast while living it up on a classy catamaran cruise.
There’s an open bar on board, so you can sip on some cold and tasty national drinks while you take in the amazing views. The cruise starts in el Cortecito and stops off on Cabeza de Toro. Here, you’ll get to snorkel for 45 minutes in the vibrant coral reef, amongst some brightly colored fish.
After, you’ll move onto a natural pool for more partying!
